“Just a small-town girl, livin’ in a lonely world.” – Journey
That is until that small-town girl met the big-city boy.
Megan & Kyle met like so many 21st-century couples do, online. They had both recently moved to Durham, NC (Megan from Lynchburg, VA, and Kyle from Los Angeles, CA) and were looking to make connections and meet new people. For Megan, Durham seemed like a natural next step after graduating from nursing school. “I was ready to move to a new city and push myself out of my comfort zone. I’m still amazed that Kyle ended up in Durham. It seems so random to me that he grew up in LA, then moved to Indiana to attend Purdue University, then somehow decided North Carolina was the place to be. I can only sum it up to being an answer to years and years of praying for God to bring someone into my life”.
About a week after matching on Bumble, Megan and Kyle had their first date at a burger/wine bar in one of the local malls. Megan felt like if the date went poorly, she could easily leave. But, if it went well, they could hang out in the mall after dinner. Megan said, “I think the date went well because we walked around for at least an hour after dinner and then proceeded to text each other late into the night. Our second date was 3 days later. The rest is history.”
For Megan & Kyle, dating life was an adventure. They checked out local restaurants, went to festivals, were each other’s plus one to work events, and traveled. They took weekend trips around North Carolina to places like Wilmington, Charlotte, and Asheville. It was on a trip to Asheville that Kyle knew Megan was the one he wanted to be with for the rest of his life.
It was also on a trip to Asheville that Kyle proposed to Megan.
“February of this year we had our second Asheville trip planned. I had planned many of the details of our first trip, so I told Kyle that he could take the lead on this one. He took advantage of this opportunity to plan out the perfect proposal. He did make me a little suspicious when he informed me that he had ordered a tripod for us to take pictures with. I’m usually the one more into pictures than him so that seemed very odd to me.
When we got to Asheville, I learned that we would be staying at the Biltmore Estate. We spent some time driving around and scoping out the property and found a gorgeous spot by a pond with the Biltmore in the background. Once we got checked into our room and freshened up Kyle insisted that we go back to that spot to try out the tripod before going to dinner. We posed for a couple of photos, and then he dropped down to one knee and asked if I would marry him. Little did I know he wasn’t taking photos at all but recording a video. I was thrilled to have that moment captured to relive over and over.
We spent a little while soaking it all in and celebrating what had just happened. In typical Kyle and Megan fashion, we celebrated with chips, salsa, and margs at a local Mexican Restaurant. We then spent the rest of the evening telling all of our friends and family.”
We met Megan & Kyle in downtown Lynchburg (which would also host their fall 2021 wedding) to take their engagement photos.
Megan & Kyle were married on a crisp fall day in November of 2021. Downtown Lynchburg served as the backdrop for their special day.
It was important to Megan & Kyle to honor the location of their ceremony with their décor choices. Megan wanted the ceremony to be classic, traditional, and elegant. She felt like these choices would highlight the stained-glass windows, pews, and organ in First Baptist Church.
For the reception, Megan wanted to keep the vibe elegant but with a fun twist. Her colors were deep wine and navy.
We ask all our couples for three words to describe their wedding day. Megan chose love, excitement, & relief.
This wedding party had so much fun with their photo shoot. From the inside of Tresca on 8th to the streets of downtown, these bridesmaids and groomsmen were picture-perfect.
Just like for their engagement photos, and their wedding, Downtown Lynchburg served as the backdrop for Megan & Kyle’s wedding photos. The couple strutted their stuff through the streets of downtown and literally stopped traffic.
The couple was married at First Baptist Church in a traditional late afternoon ceremony. Megan’s dad officiated which made for some emotional moments.
After the ceremony, the guests moved to Tresca on 8th for an evening reception.
Megan & Kyle picked “Wild” by John Legend as their first dance song. However, it wasn’t this dance that the couple was most looking forward to. When all the guests cleared out for the evening, Megan & Kyle took a moment to themselves inside the venue for one last dance.
Congrats to Megan & Kyle. We hope you continue to dance through life together for many years to come.
