“Through periwinkle moments on unremarkable days, hope blossoms.” – M, Cumulus Life, In This Moment
We recently looked back at some of our favorite emotional photos of 2021, now it’s time to look forward to what 2022 will bring. While there’s always uncertainty as we enter a new year, we believe the uncertainty brings with it hope for what’s to come. This year, Pantone was also inspired by hope when they selected the 2022 color of the year, Very Peri.
Very Peri is a color from the blue family with a red undertone (to those of us who aren’t as fancy… it’s purple).
Pantone says that Very Peri, “displays a spritely, joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions”. This color was selected to reflect, “what is taking place in our global culture, expressing what people are looking for that color can hope to answer.” Laure Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute says, “Creating a new color for the first time in the history of our Pantone Color of the Year educational color program reflects the global innovation and transformation taking place. As society continues to recognize color as a critical form of communication, and a way to express and affect ideas and emotions and engage and connect, the complexity of this new red violet infused blue hue highlights the expansive possibilities that lay before us”.
Here are some ways you can incorporate Very Peri (and other colors from its family) into your celebration in 2022.
Christen & Will expertly wove the periwinkle color into their wedding invitations. We also love the periwinkle invitations from our Brick & Ivy styled session.
Cassie & Derrick’s Richmond, VA wedding had shades of blue and purple sprinkled throughout. Our favorite use of color in their garden wedding was the flowers. The periwinkle flowers made us smile every time we saw them throughout the day. And Madalyn looked gorgeous holding these purple-hued flowers in our photoshoot with Irvington Spring Farm.
Wedding cakes are a great opportunity to have a lot of fun with flavor and color. We love the idea of a lavender-infused cake with shades of periwinkle and blue icing. Take some cake-spiration from our Brick & Ivy session in January 2020 (a more subtle use of the color palate) or from Clara & Austin’s more vibrant elopement wedding cake.
Loryn & Nishant’s mothers both looked gorgeous in shades of Very Peri for their wedding.
Autumn & Justin’s bridal party looked stunning in their periwinkle attire. George & Falon incorporate the color into their wedding with a bit of sparkle.
Megan’s baby blue shoes remind us you can bring a splash of color to your wedding day with your footwear. And since Very Peri is part of the blue family, it can be your something blue for your big day.
When it comes to color, don’t be afraid to be bold. We love the use of purples and blues in our Church Street Bridal photoshoot from early 2021.
No matter what color palette you choose for your 2022 wedding, we know your big day will be filled with hope and expectation.
